How does fast charging work and what do you need for it?
You know that feeling when you need to quickly recharge your phone before you leave and a regular charger only delivers a few percent in ten minutes? That's where fast charging comes in - the technology that gives you peace of mind (and a battery over 50%) in minutes. We explain how it works, what you need to use it, and how Cubenest products support fast charging.
What is fast charging?
- Fast charging means that the device is charged at a higher wattage (W) than the standard 5 watts.
- This is achieved by a combination of higher voltage and/or current.
- For example:
Standard charger: 5 V / 1 A = 5 W
Fast charger: 9 V / 2 A = 18 W
Some models reach up to 30-100 W or more (e.g. for laptops)
What do you need for fast charging?
1. A device that supports fast charging
- iPhone 8 and newer: support 18-27 W via USB-C/PD
- New Android phones: often 25 W, 33 W, even 67+ W
- Tablets and laptops: require even higher power (30-100 W)
2. A charger with sufficient power
- For example, Cubenest GaN chargers with outputs of 30 W, 65 W or more.
- GaN technology (Gallium Nitride) allows smaller size and higher efficiency without overheating.
- Our most powerful charger Gan S6D0 with 240 W can handle fast charging of up to 6 devices 👉link here
Tip: even if your phone has a 20W limit, a 65W charger will still help - it will provide exactly as much as your phone can safely take.
3. A cable that can handle more power
Not every cable is the same. Fast charging requires a quality USB-C cable, preferably:
- Certified for Power Delivery (PD)
- Supporting a minimum of 60W/3A
- Cubenest products often include quality cables already in the package - or they can be purchased separately.
Fast charging and wireless technology
- MagSafe charging for iPhones: up to 15W (when using an original or certified charger)
- Qi wireless charging: typically 5 W, some power banks up to 15 W
- Qi2 - a new wireless fast charging standard with magnetic alignment and higher efficiency
- At cubenest, we offer chargers with both Qi and Qi2 support, so you're ready for the future of wireless fast charging.
Summary: What do you need for fast charging?
- Phone/tablet - Support for fast charging (PD, QC...)
- Charger - Power of at least 18-30 W, ideally GaN
- Cable - USB-C with 60W support or more
- Wireless - Qi2 or MagSafe 15 W compatibility
